Distinction is a support organisation started in 2014 and is a network made up of many supportive partners aimed at supporting other partners of Trans/Non-Binary people who want to support their partner. We give them a safe space to discuss and share personal feelings.
Supporting the partners of transgender people is essential because we are often entirely forgotten about (or deliberately excluded) and very often we feel like we are the only person in the world that are going though this. Having no one to confide in or to support us who really can understand how we are feeling can make it very difficult for our relationships to survive. Having been though it, we know that as your partner changes, so do you and your partner’s changes can have significant impact on you. That is what we are here for, we are here to help, we will hold you up and support you while you get on with the important job of keeping your relationship together. We are here to hold your hand, to be your friend, listen when you need to talk and also answer questions based on our own experiences. We do this through a private group on Facebook – the conversations will show up in your news feed but only other members of the group will be able to see that you are a member and what you have contributed to the group. It is important that that the group is a safe, private space. People can only join the group through contacting us here or through the Distinction public Facebook page.
Distinction Support is founded on the principle of kindness, positivity and mutual support. We are specifically for partners of people who are trying to or who are, supporting their partners from the early days right the way through to transition and life beyond.
We are an international group of supportive partners all with different circumstances and at different stages, all supporting each other support our partners.
If you want to find out more we have this on YouTube where a couple of our partners explain how Distinction has helped them
